Here are a few simple recipes and remember, if you know a good recipe, and want to share it, email us at hello@todayonline.uk.

WHAT YOU NEED:

4 slices of thick, toasting bread

Sweet sandwich fillings of your choice, example, like jam/jelly, peanut butter, marmalade, curds, or chocolate spreads

Some frying oil for the pan (or you may use lard if you wish)

HOW TO MAKE:

Top a slice of bread with your choice of sweet fillings but keep the toppings to the centre of the sandwich and not to reach the sides and ensure that the amount you place is thick.

Add an empty slice and sandwich this, ensuring that the bread slices stick together.

Add a couple of glugs of frying oil into a pan or 150g of lard and gently heat but ensure that the oil/lard doesn’t hiss or pop and once warm, place the bread for 2-4 minutes turning for another 2-4 minutes.

Don’t let to overcook and once brown, take out and place on tray to cool down.

As this recipe is high in fat, you can dust some extra sugar, but please treat this recipe as an occasional, inexpensive treat.
